This traditional Japanese folding knife, Higonokami, with all-metal construction, was a common everyday tool in Japan from the Meiji to Shōwa periods. It is manufactured by the renowned Nagao Koma Seisakusho workshop, founded in the 1880s, which still specializes in the production of authentic Higonokami knives and is the only official holder of this trademark.

The knife has a full-steel construction , i.e. the blade and handle are made of steel, which ensures high strength, stability when sharpening and less tendency to bend when working with the tip. The surface of the handle is covered with pear varnish , which improves grip even when dirty or when working with gloves. The characteristic protrusion on the back of the blade allows easy opening without a safety catch, exactly according to the traditional design.

Thanks to its simple but very functional design, this knife is popular for wood carving, pencil sharpening and general everyday tasks . It is also often used to teach proper knife handling and hand sharpening , as the open design allows you to watch how the blade gradually adapts to the user's style.
